It takes about two hours, so not everyone can do this often, but how about once per season? Platelets are needed for leukemia patients (often children), HIV patients, lots of others. You don&amp;#39;t lose any actual blood. They run the blood from one arm, through a machine, then back into the other arm (sans platelets). In the meantime, you watch a movie or chat with the nurses. The trickier part is if you match and they take your bone marrow, but they medicate you heavily, so...... not so bad I think! I signed up a while ago as well- thinking, if it were my family member- or, gasp, child, I&amp;#39;d be praying everyone in the world signed up.  It&amp;#39;s really easy to do online too at I think marrow.org. It&amp;#39;s free, they send you the kit, and you simply send it back.
